Isabella Bobal D.O. Ribera del Júcar, Castilla La Mancha, Spain. Red Wine.
Press 90Pts WE "This deep garnet-colored wine has aromas of Chambord, cocoa powder and orange blossom. It is juicy at first sip and the brawny tannins settle in, joined by Luxardo cherry, blackberry pie, dark chocolate, violet and orange-zest flavors. A soft touch of earthiness adds interest to the finish"
The Bobal Grape Variety
Bobal is a native Spanish grape variety. Its compact clusters and thick berries make it resistant to diseases and suitable for arid climates. Wines produced with Bobal are intense, with a deep ruby color and purple reflections. Historically used for blending wines, it is now valued in high-quality single-varietal wines. The name ‘Bobal’ derives from the Latin ‘bovale,’ referencing the cluster’s ox-head shape.
This fantastic Bobal comes from a small wine region that most wine maps forget to include. Bobal has always been used locally as a blending grape, but it’s becoming more common over the past decade to offer it as a single-varietal wine. This particular bottle is a great introduction to the grape.
