Domaine de la Denante Bourgogne Pinot Noir Macon Burgundy

Domaine de la Denante is a small estate located in Davayé, one of the famed 'Villages' of the Mâcon.  It is named for a small creek that flows across the top of their property. The Estate has always been farmed organically, and worked largely by hand, assisted by draft horses.  In 2012, Robert's son Damien took over the estate, elevating the viticulture to include biodynamic practices. The Bourgogne Rouge is hand-picked, cold macerated for 48 hours, and fermented with wild yeasts.  Approximately 50% whole clusters are included.

The Bourgogne Rouge is from a very special vineyard planted in 1930 on a gently rolling limestone outcropping near Loché, on the eastern edge of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation.  These gnarled, surly old vines give small quantities of very flavourful grapes, amounting between 3 or 4 barrels per year depending on yield (75 to 100 cases).

Good intensity with aromas of red cherry, raspberry, raspberry , cranberry, red licorice, and soft notes of vanilla. High acidity, low tannins, and medium alcohol. Subtle notes of mushroom and forest floor. Delicious. Tiny production."
