Mas Amiel Vintage 2011 Maury (Vin doux naturel or Fortified wine)
✌️Located in the heart of the Agly Valley near Maury, protected to the north by the Corbieres hills and to the south by the Pyrenees, the 170 hectares of Mas Amiel vines grow on black outcrops surrounded by white limestone cliffs. Decomposed black schist slopes, exposed to the South. The vineyard is always under the watchful eye of the Cathar fortress of Queribus. This is Cathar country: it’s beautiful but rugged—a hot, rather hostile environment with rocky, stony soils, frequent windy weather, and 260 days’ sunshine a year. Back in 1816, a bishop used one of his plots of land as a bet in a game of cards. He lost it to Raymond Amiel, and this is how Mas Amiel was born.
The geographical wilderness that is Mas Amiel is absolutely at the heart of all their wines' identities.
Mas Amiel Vintage 2011 Maury, France "This wine undergoes a process called mutage to create a naturally sweet wine. Mutage is the process of stopping the fermentation of grapes during winemaking, like a vintage Port. 100% Grenache Noir. Pure, sweet, ripe fruit with nice focus and some peppery, spicy notes. Lovely depth to the berry fruits. Ripe berryish and spicy, best served cool. 91/100" Try it with dark chocolate, aged cheeses and blue cheeses ❣️
